On January 19, 2026, the CIHR Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health (ICRH) proudly launched its 10 year Institute Research Priority Plan (IRPP) at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI MUHC) in Montréal.
This milestone event marked the unveiling of a renewed vision and research priorities for the Institute, with a bold new focus on reimagining acute care. The plan aims to deliver better health outcomes for all Canadians through research and evidence-informed decision-making.
Event program highlights
The event featured distinguished guests and thought provoking discussions.
Dr. Paul Hébert, President of CIHR, opened the event with remarks highlighting CIHR’s role within Canada’s research landscape. He was followed by Dr. Ariane Marelli, Scientific Director of ICRH, who presented an overview of the Institute’s 10 year IRPP.
Participants also heard a powerful personal perspective from Monique Chalifour, a patient partner, who shared her journey within the acute care ecosystem.
Dr. Hébert then moderated an insightful panel discussion featuring:
- Dr. Marie Josée Hébert, Chair of the CIHR Governing Council, who spoke about the impact of science on health policy.
- Dr. Carole Jabet, Vice President, Research and Scientific Direction – Life Sciences Sector, FRQ, who discussed partnerships and innovation for health improvement.
- Bill Tholl, Senior Policy Advisor and Consultant, who shared his perspective on the role of science in shaping health policy.
The event concluded with closing remarks from Dr. Rhian M. Touyz, Executive Director and Chief Scientific Officer of the RI-MUHC, who acknowledged the privilege of hosting ICRH at the RI-MUHC and the shared focus on improving acute care.
