Meeting date: January 29, June 2, October 27
- ACE ratified its Guiding Principles
- ACE completed its analysis of ethics issues in Open Science in health research funding and delivered a final report, titled: “Ethical Considerations in Open Science: Building Trust in Non-ideal Research and Social Contexts”
- Aspects of the report were presented at the Canadian Association of Research Ethics Board (CAREB) Conference in May 2025
- ACE completed its review of ethics considerations for the use of Generative AI in health research funding and created the following three guidance documents for CIHR:
- Key Considerations for Reviewers Evaluating Research Proposals Potentially Developed with the Use of Generative AI
- Key Considerations for the Responsible Use of Generative AI in the Development of Research Grant Proposals
- Key Considerations for the Responsible Use of Generative AI in the Development of Training Award Proposals
2024
Meeting dates: March 28, May 27, October 9
- ACE ratified its Terms of Reference.
- CIHR published a webpage dedicated to ACE, highlighting the committee's members and Terms of Reference.
- ACE began exploring ethical issues in Open Science and Artificial Intelligence related to health research funding.
- The work on AI included a compilation of ethics reflections to inform the development of the Tri-Agency guidance on the use of artificial intelligence in the development and review of research grant proposals.
2023

- ACE held a first introductory meeting. This committee will provide CIHR with guidance to support its commitment to ethics in health research and health research ethics.
